Spirittea

The life sim RPG Spirittea is in the works for Switch, publisher No More Robots and developer Cheesemaster Games revealed today.

Spirittea features both life sim and management gameplay. The title takes place in rural East Asia with players fixing up an old bathhouse and helping dozens of spirits to find their peace. Stardew Valley is mentioned as one of the game’s inspirations, along with “classic spirit-focused anime and manga”.

The premise behind Spirittea is that a writer goes to the countryside in order to clear their head and find inspiration for their next novel. But after accidentally drinking from an old mystical teapot, the protagonist starts seeing the spirit world overlapping with their reality. The cat spirit and guide Wonyan shows how many spirits need saving, and provides the keys to an old bathhouse where spirits go to relax.

Here’s some additional information about the gameplay:

Players live day to day, finding local NPCs and spirits to help, and taking part in tons of different hobbies, ranging from bug catching to karaoke.

Every spirit you help will then turn up at your bathhouse, where you can offer them towels, salts, snacks, and a lovely hot soak. Upgrading your bathhouse with new furniture, rooms and baths is key to attracting the most exciting spirits, including elusive Lord Spirits, who take up an entire room each.

A trailer for Spirittea can be seen below.

Spirittea will launch this summer on Switch.
