Tera Raid Battles are a new gameplay addition to Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, and in this guide we will explain how to unlock 6 Star Tera Raid Battles and, which offer the highest level of challenge. As you progress through the game, you will naturally unlock higher ranks with progressively stronger and rarer Pokemon.
How to unlock 6 Star Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
A few steps need to be taken to access 6 Star Tera Raid Battles. We’ve outlined everything you need to do below.
Step 1: Complete the main story
Your first objective towards unlocking 6 Star Tera Raid battles is to complete each of the three story pathways: Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and Victory Road. Once you have finished all three of these, a fourth and final story segment, The Way Home, will unlock, which will see you entering Area Zero with your companions to meet with Professor Sada if you are playing Pokemon Scarlet, or Professor Turo if you are playing Pokemon Violet. Complete the series of events here and the credits will roll, and you will be back at the academy.
Step 2: Participate in the Academy Ace Tournament
Next up in the process to unlock 6 Star Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, immediately upon completing The Way Home you will be given a new task: to re-visit each of the eight Gyms of the Paldea Region and inspect them. This involves battling each of the Gym Leaders again. Simply head to their Gyms and you will find each of them in the lobby and approaching them will prompt them to challenge you to a battle. Each of them has four Pokemon at Level 65, with their final Pokemon, which they will Terastalise, being Level 66. Their teams are as follows:
– Katy (Cortondo) has Lokix, Forretress, Spidops, Heracross, and Ursaring
– Brassius (Artazon) has Lilligant, Breloom, Tsareena, Arboliva, and Sudowoodo
– Iono (Levincia) has Kilowattrel, Bellibolt, Electrode, Luxray, and Mismagius
– Kofu (Cascarrafa) has Veluza, Pelipper, Wugtrio, Clawitzer, and Crabominable
– Larry (Medali) has Oinkologne, Komala, Braviary, Dudunsparce, and Staraptor
– Ryme (Montenevera) has Banette, Mimikyu, Spiritomb, Houndstone, and Toxtricity, and will once again be a double battle.
– Tulip (Alfornada) has Farigiraf, Gardevoir, Espathra, Gallade, and Florges
– Grusha (Glaseado) has Frosmoth, Beartic, Cetitan, Weavile, and Altaria

First will be Pokémon Trainer Arven, who has Greedent, Cloyster, Scovillain, Toedscruel, Garganacl, and Mabosstiff. His Pokemon are all Level 67, with his Mabosstiff being Level 68 with the Dark Tera type.
Second will be Instructor Jacq, who has Arcanine, Lurantis, Swalot, Mudsdale, Slowbro, and Farigiraf. His Pokemon are all Level 65, with his Farigiraf being Level 66 with the Psychic Tera type.
Your third opponent will be Instructor Dendra, who has Falinks, Tauros (Water/Fighting), Tauros (Fire/Fighting), Medicham, Hawlucha, and Hariyama. Her Pokemon are all Level 65, with her Hariyama being Level 66 with the Fighting Tera type.
Your final opponent will be Top Champion Geeta, who has Espathra, Gogoat, Veluza, Avalugg, Kingambit, and Glimmora. Her Pokemon are all Level 69, with her Glimmora being Level 70 with the Rock Tera type.
Defeat them to emerge victorious in the Academy Ace Tournament. You will be able to participate in the tournament again afterwards by speaking to the receptionist at the academy, although your opponents will be randomized each time.
Step 3: Participate in 5 Star Tera Raid Battles
The final step in knowing how to unlock 6 Star Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is to participate in 5 Star Tera Raid Battles. You will receive a call from Jacq informing you that these are appearing all across the region and requesting that you take them on. You will need to clear around ten 5 star Tera Raid Battles (the number appears to be random: we actually unlocked it with nine cleared battles, but others have reported needing to do a few more before getting the call) either by yourself or in a group with other players online, before Jacq will call you again, informing you that new, black crystals have started to appear across the region.
How to find 6 Star Tera Raid Battles
You will be able to easily identify 6 Star Tera Raid Battles on your map by their icons, which will be black regardless of what elemental symbol they display. On the overworld, they will appear as black crystals, and interacting with them will show you a Pokemon silhouette accompanied by six pink stars instead of the normal yellow stars used in 1 to 5 star raids. Doing this will also unlock the limited time 7 star Tera Raid Battles, such as Charizard, when they are available.
