Nintendo of America president explains Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s $70 price tag
Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser has now commented on the decision to price The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at $70.
The news surrounding how much the game would cost was recently a big topic of discussion. This marks the first time that Nintendo is launching a title at $70 – its previous releases have been $60, with some costing less than that.
We did get a general response from Nintendo at the time with the company stating that prices are determined “on a case-by-case basis’. However, Bowser has now expanded on things a bit further.
Speaking with The Associated Press, he said:
“We look at what the game has to offer. I think fans will find this is an incredibly full, deeply immersive experience. The price point reflects the type of experience that fans can expect when it comes to playing this particular game. This isn´t a price point that we´ll necessarily have on all our titles. It´s actually a fairly common pricing model either here or in Europe or other parts of the world, where the pricing may vary depending on the game itself.”
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom launches for Switch on May 12, 2023. A $130 collector’s edition is also planned that contains an art book with concept art, steelbook case, an Iconart steel poster, and a set of four pin badges.
