Sonic Origins Plus’ physical release has new content as separate download code
Those interested in picking up the upcoming physical version of Sonic Origins Plus might be disappointed to hear that not everything is included on the cartridge. Based on boxes showing up at retailers – specifically GameStop in this case – it seems that the new content is instead offered as a download code.
You’ll be getting the original, base experience on the Switch cartridge. With everything SEGA is introducing with the “Plus” version, it appears that’s all tied to an eShop download.
So Sonic Origins Plus' extra content with Amy and the Game Gear games will not be included on the disc, but be a separate download code. Shame it could not be on the disc itself.
Mania Plus in comparison has all the extra content on the disc/cartridge. https://t.co/PoerZvga0U

This won’t impact everyone – especially if you were planning on going full digital anyway – but it’s especially disappointing to hardcore collectors. There are also fans interested in having everything on a cartridge for preservation purposes.
Sonic Origins Plus builds off the original 2022 multi-game collection by adding all twelve Sonic Game Gear titles, playable classic Amy in Sonic the Hedgehog 1, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, as well as playable Knuckles in Sonic CD.
Sonic Origins Plus is due out on June 23, 2023 in time for Sonic’s birthday. The release will cost $39.99, but if you have the original release, it’ll cost $9.99 to upgrade.
