How to clip out of bounds in Splatoon 3’s Grand Festival venue

Splatoon 3 glitch Grand Festival

Even though Splatoon 3’s Grand Festival event is over, you can still re-access the venue via an amiibo. And if you haven’t quite had your fill of picture-taking, there’s an out-of-bounds glitch that will let you capture photos of the Grand Festival venue from entirely new angles. It may take a few tries, but it’s a fairly easy and harmless glitch with cool photo potential. You can even take pictures next to Acht and DJ Octavio, who appear in the Grand Festival if you’ve finished the Side Order DLC and main story campaign, respectively. Though we don’t normally report on minor glitches, we thought this might be of interest to those of you looking to explore the gargantuan effort the developers put into the Grand Festival venue a bit more.

How to get out of bounds in the Grand Festival venue

Out of bounds 2

When you first load up the Grand Festival venue, you will spawn in front of a long hallway with a roof and pillars. There is a jellyfish NPC present here near the edge, and you will need to use him to clip into the wall. Have a look at the image above – basically, you want to enter swim mode and swim into the jellyfish. Once you’ve got the correct angle, the camera will change from the view above to one that’s closer to your Inkling or Octoling. When that happens, you’ll want to immediately press and hold jump over to the top-right corner of this image behind the rightmost pillar on-screen. It may take a few tries, but eventually you should be able to do several held-button jumps into the area behind the rightmost pillar. If you fall out of bounds and die, it means you went straight back rather than behind the rightmost pillar. You’re aiming for that one, not the one directly left of the jellyfish. As we mentioned, you can use this glitch to take pictures with Acht and Octavio!

If you want to take a picture with Acht, clip into the wall as shown above and then head to the right near the Grand Festival sign with the big block letters. Pass through the sign and jump up onto the rocks – you’re still out of bounds, but this area is near one of the smaller stages that the idol groups can perform at. From here, you will need to follow the path past this tent and all the way around the huge Grand Festival stage. Try as you might, you unfortunately cannot get on top of the stage; it seems the entire area has collision that you cannot clip through because there are no NPCs over here. Don’t go too far from the path, though, as there are death barriers that will force you to respawn back in bounds! Once you’ve made the long trek around the Grand Festival stage, you’ll have to carefully jump up the cliff here, being careful not to fall. From here, you can jump down to the tent next to the smaller stage, where Acht is standing. You can tap a non-idol amiibo to unlock extra poses if you’re looking to take a cool picture.

If you want to take a picture with Octavio, do the steps above. Instead of going into the tent, jump down a good distance behind the cardboard Big Man cutout and pass directly through the stand with Octavio and Captain Cuttlefish inside. Your Inkling or Octoling will be very short, and only your head will likely be visible in the picture. If you’re having trouble activating Photo Mode, spin around the camera a bit and wait for the option to appear. As a side note, the smaller stage near Acht actually does let you go inside. Simply jump from that cliff into the stage and you will clip through. Unfortunately, the player character isn’t tall enough to be visible at all outside of the stage, and it doesn’t let you go into photo mode at all.

Do note that since this is a glitch, it may be patched or completely removed via game updates. In particular, if that jellyfish is not there, you either need to reload the area or it has been removed entirely and the clip is impossible. That said, it does work on at least version 9.1.0.

Splatoon 3 and its DLC are out now on Switch. You can check out the official website here. Also, we have the specific rundown of how to revisit the Grand Festival venue here.
