Nintendo Music was the latest out-of-nowhere announcement from Nintendo. The company has started up its own dedicated app on mobile, letting fans listen to songs from various games it’s shipped over the years.

Some fans might be wondering how Nintendo Music came to be. While speaking with NTV News, the company shared a bit of insight.

Here’s what Nintendo had to say in an interview with Nippon Television News (rough translation):

“We believe that game music is an important and valuable piece of content in order to ‘expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP,’ and Nintendo Music is a service that allows us to deliver this game music in a way that is unique to Nintendo. You can enjoy the unique features of Nintendo Music, such as being able to enjoy music along with screenshots, and being provided with playlists based not only on game titles, but also on various game-related themes and perspectives, such as ‘characters’ and ‘music during battles.’ We believe that if Nintendo Music reminds you of your favorite gaming experiences, it will also inspire you to want to play the games again.”

Nintendo Music is now available on iOS and Android for Nintendo Switch Online members. The app doesn’t have a massive amount of games, but more will be added over time. In fact, Super Mario Bros. Wonder was made available on the service yesterday and further titles will be joining next week.
