Nintendo doesn’t think Switch sales will be impacted by upcoming successor this holiday
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has briefly spoken about Switch sales for the holidays in light of a new console looming on the horizon.
Furukawa was taking questions following the company’s financial results release yesterday. Nintendo was asked if the presence of the new system could impact current Switch sales with the big shopping season now getting underway. However, Furukawa doesn’t feel that there will be a negative effect, especially given how Switch well over seven years ago.
Here’s what Furukawa had to say, as relayed by Mainichi:
“I can’t say it doesn’t exist at all, but the Switch is already in its eighth year since launch. I don’t think the presence or absence of a successor will have much impact on customers who are purchasing it at this time.”
It’s been a fairly active 24 hours for Nintendo. Aside from reporting its financial results, the company reconfirmed that its next platform will see an announcement by the end of March 2025, and we heard that the device will be backwards compatible with Switch software while also supporting Switch Online.
