Nintendo shares first details on Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’s new story
One of the most appealing points of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for those who played it on Wii U is the inclusion of a brand new new story. It went under the radar this week, but Nintendo actually gave a bit of information about what this will cover.
We’ll be posting the overview of what Nintendo shared below. Just keep in mind that you’ll probably want to avoid reading it unless you’ve already beaten the game previously.
As previously mentioned, the new story for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition won’t be separate for the main game. You’ll simply continue on playing after beating the original ending, so it acts as an extra chapter.
Files from the Zohar provides the following translation of the story introduction, which was first posted on the official Japanese website this week:
Shortly after the conclusion of the decisive battle inside the Lifehold, a mysterious ‘disappearance phenomenon’ occurs throughout Mira. A void that swallows everything and expands its territory, leaving behind not even light. To add insult to injury, a new enemy, the Ghosts, emerge from the void and attack the members of BLADE…
Just as the protagonists are in dire straits, a Skell descends from the sky. It is the Ares, the machine that destroyed the oncoming enemy and protected everyone’s lives as the White Whale crashed on Mira. It was thought to be missing along with its pilot, but it once again joins the group as they face a new threat. A vanishing phenomena, the Ghosts, and remnants of the Ganglion-and then the floating continent that appears above Mira, along with these new threats. BLADE must once again secure the safety of humanity, on this unknown land.
Something else we’ll include here are Nintendo’s English descriptions for Liesel and Neilnail. These characters are also brand new to the Definitive Edition.
Liesel is a test pilot and former fighter pilot belonging to Arms Company, who is involved in planning the development of the new Skell “Hraesvelg”. Neilnail is an archaeologist studying alien civilizations. She is friendly, scholarly, and curious. She is very intrigued by the culture and customs of the people of Earth.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is due out for Nintendo Switch in March 20, 2025. Outside of the new story, developer Monolith Soft is making a bunch of improvements and changes to improve the experience – we recently covered it all here.
Thanks to Files from the Zohar and Nintendo (1, 2) for the news.
