Nintendo ranks #22 in Metacritic’s 2024 game publisher rankings
The annual Metacritic publisher rankings just went live, and now we have the results for 2024 – including a look at where Nintendo stacks up. The selection is based on how each company fared in terms of their releases and reviews.
In 2024, Nintendo actually saw a big dip. The company sits at #22, compared to #6 for 2023 – and behind both Sony and Microsoft. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom definitely provided a big boost which was missing in 2024, but even taking that into account, it’s a significant decline.
Nintendo had an average “Metascore” of 76 last year. Also, Metacritic’s math indicates that the company had zero “great” games. The highest-rated title of 2024 was Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Endless Ocean Luminous was probably the biggest miss with a Metascore of 60. Also worth noting is that four different Mario titles scored 77 or lower while Echoes of Wisdom was the lowest-scoring Zelda release in two decades.
SEGA took the top spot for the Metacritic publisher rankings in 2024. The company had a number of notable games, including Metaphor: ReFantazio (rumored for Nintendo Switch 2), Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, and more.
