Nintendo Switch 2 will have optional friend codes

Nintendo Switch 2 will be bringing back friend codes, but they’ll just be one way in which you’ll be able to connect with others.

Those that own the current Nintendo Switch will find that the friends list system will act similarly on the new console. In fact, you’ll be able to transfer it over to Switch 2.

Those that are looking for a different method will be able to add friends by scanning a QR code with the Nintendo Switch phone app. You’ll even be able to add a note for every friend. If that person happens to change their name or if you need some help remembering who they are, notes will certainly come in handy.

On the current Nintendo Switch, you have a few different options to add friends. You can search with a friend code, search for local users, or search for users you played with. Suggestions are also available based on friends you’ve had on 3DS, Wii U, and mobile. There used to be suggestions for social media as well, but Nintendo previously removed that functionality.
