Nintendo on new Mario game for Switch 2: “Stay tuned”
Nintendo announced its first batch of games for Switch 2 recently, but Mario was missing in action – aside from Mario Kart. Some were surprised that the company did not show off a brand new 3D entry in the franchise. Outside of the bite-sized Bowser’s Fury adventure as part of the Super Mario 3D World re-release, there hasn’t been a new game since Super Mario Odyssey in 2017.
So where is Mario then? CNET posed that question to Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser in a recent interview. Bowser would only shared the following:
“Stay tuned. You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I’m sure will make its way to the platform.”
Something interesting to think about relates to Donkey Kong Bananza. There’s talk going around that the game is being made by the Super Mario Odyssey team – in terms of style and overall flair, that certainly would make sense. If that’s true though, where does that leave Mario? We can only speculate, but as Bowser indicated above, it does seem like it’s a matter of time before the famous plumber gets his next adventure.
If you’re looking for some sort of Mario fix, Mario Kart World arrives on June 5, 2025 alongside Nintendo Switch 2. The company also has further releases in store, including Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, Donkey Kong Bananza, Drag x Drive, Kirby Riders, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (in partnership with Koei Tecmo).
