Nintendo Switch 2 getting a camera that works in handheld mode
Today, HORI unveiled a brand new camera accessory for Nintendo Switch 2 that’s compatible in handheld mode.
GameChat is a big new feature Nintendo is promoting for its upcoming platform. With it, you can stream games you’re playing with friends. On top of that, you can chat while playing.
Nintendo has its own official camera planned. However, what we’ve seen from it is meant for docked play. That’s where HORI’s add-on comes in. It does also come with a base, meaning it’s compatible with docked mode and tabletop mode as well.
Note that the resolution of the camera is lower than the one Nintendo will be selling. It’s 480p whereas the official one is 1080p.
Thanks to Amazon for the news. HORI’s handheld Nintendo Switch 2 camera launches on June 5, 2025 in Japan (a western release may happen later). In case you missed it, the company is also reading a Piranha Plant-themed docked camera, which you can read about here.
