Sonic x Shadow Generations upgrade Nintendo Switch 2

With Sonic x Shadow Generations set to launch soon on Nintendo Switch 2, SEGA has confirmed that there is no upgrade planned for Switch 1 players.

That news comes directly from the official website. A note on one of the pages states: “The Nintendo Switch version cannot be upgraded to the Nintendo Switch 2 version.” This also applies to DLC, SEGA says.

SEGA does not that save data can be transferred from the Nintendo Switch version of Sonic x Shadow Generations to Switch 2. However, it does not work the other way around.

Finally, we have a note about file size. Sonic x Shadow Generations players on the upcoming console will need 24GB of free space.

Sonic x Shadow Generations largely seems to be the same on Nintendo Switch 2 as it was on the Big N’s current console. The big improvement SEGA is touting relates to improved graphics. If you want to experience that, you’ll need to buy the new version in full. As stated above, there’s no upgrade, whether that’s free or paid.

Thanks to SEGA for today’s news. Yesterday, it was officially confirmed that Sonic x Shadow Generations will be out for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. We have a trailer for that version here.
