Japan’s best-selling games of May 2025 – Fantasy Life i leads the way

New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of May 2025.

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time has done very well for Level-5 thus far, and the game was the top seller last month. On Nintendo Switch alone, it sold 83,000 copies at retail. Mobile Suit Gundam Seed: Battle Destiny Remastered also makes it into the top five.

Below is the full list of Japan’s best-selling games of May 2025:

2. [NSW] Minecraft – 28,338 / 3,895,674
3. [NSW] Super Mario Party Jamboree – 27,681 / 1,304,912
4. [NSW] Mobile Suit Gundam Seed: Battle Destiny Remastered – 26,130 / NEW
5. [PS5] Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time – 10,730 / NEW

As we often see, Nintendo was the top publisher in Japan in terms of software sold. The company sold about 190,000 units at retail.

Even with Nintendo Switch 2 being a month away at the top, Switch was still the top hardware in Japan for May. The system sold 109,453 units, compared to 110,566 in April. The PlayStation 5 sold 32.657 units.
