Nintendo picks up a patent that sounds like achievements, earn points and rewards
Some fans over the years have called for Nintendo to introduce a platform-wide achievements system, and while nothing has been announced, there’s some hope about future possibilities following a few patent filing.
The patent was picked up in the United States earlier this month. In the description, it mentions that users can earn points by meeting certain conditions. They can then use these points to obtain different rewards. Players could potentially receive things like icons or wallpapers.
Multiple ideas for missions / achievements are mentioned. These include using a certain weapon, using a weapon a set amount of times, clearing a stage, defeating an enemy a certain number of times, acquiring an item, and defeating a boss.
Here are some excerpts from the Nintendo achievements patent filing, which were shared by Nintendo Patents Watch:
We always have to put this word of caution out there, but Nintendo patents aren’t always indicative of future plans. There have been a number of patents over the years that have come and gone. We’ve also seen a few that have actually moved forward. It’s unclear what will happen in this case, but it’s an interesting filing nonetheless.
Last month, we heard about a Nintendo patent for a Joy-Con 2 with a crank plus a clickable wheel. You can read about that here.
