Super Mario manga creator Kazuki Motoyama has passed away
The creator of the Super Mario manga, Kazuki Motoyama, has passed away at the age of 69. The news was revealed by his sister, Lisa Motoyama, on social media. She did not disclose the cause of death, but expressed her gratitude to everyone who cared for her brother throughout his life.
One of the most iconic characters in the world of gaming once had his own manga series. Super Mario was a manga that portrayed Nintendo’s famous plumber, running from December 1988 to September 1998, with additional chapters published in the sister magazine Deluxe BomBom. In total, 183 stories were released, a series remembered today due to sad news.
Motoyama led writing as well as illustrating the Super Mario manga, which appeared in Kodansha’s anthology magazine Comic BomBom from 1988 to 1998. The series featured various adaptations of Mario’s adventures – from Super Mario Bros. 3 to Super Mario 64. Motoyama’s Super Mario work received praise for its art style, meta humor, and playful reinterpretations of Nintendo’s beloved universe.
Our heart goes out to his family and friends at this time. Let us know if you ever had a chance to check out the manga in the comments below.
