PS1 games Tail of the Sun, Aquanaut’s Holiday coming to Nintendo Switch

Tail of the Sun and Aquanaut’s Holiday are both coming to Nintendo Switch, it’s been revealed. Tail of the Sun will be out first on December 16, 2025 in Japan. Aquanat’s Holiday will follow in 2026.

Both titles are being released as part of the Artdink Game Log catalog. They initially launched on the original PlayStation.

Artdink has shared the following overview for Tail of the Sun:

The “Weird Game of the Century” released on PlayStation returns! Tail of the Sun is a simple 3D action game where you control a caveman living a wild life. Wagashi-shaped nuts, An open-world field, and avant-garde techno music… Experience a wild, pure, and simple life.

Tail of the Sun is a simple 3D action game where you control a primitive human as their guardian spirit, living a wild life. Released for the PlayStation in 1994, its unique worldview earned it the reputation as a “once-in-a-century oddball game.” 

The protagonist of this game is a primitive human. Their daily life was driven purely by instinct. They slept when tired, gathered fallen nuts, hunted animals to satisfy their hunger.

This game recreates that wild, simple existence.

Wagashi-shaped nuts, an open-world field, scattered objects resembling human body parts, avant-garde techno music, and a caveman who suddenly falls asleep while head-sliding…

Experience a wild, pure, and simple life that appeals to your primal instincts.

The goal is to build a tower reaching the sun by stacking “ivory” obtained from hunting mammoths. Primitive humans have weak legs and little strength, making even hunting small prey a struggle. However, by eating nuts scattered across the field and the meat of hunted animals, they gradually grow stronger. With this strengthened body, take down even stronger prey and develop your settlement. Your strength will be passed down to the next generation of primitive people.

Someday, with a resilient body and weapons, you will be able to defeat your arch-enemy, the mammoth. What will happen when the ivory tower reaches the sun? Witness the next form of evolution.
