Falcom on supporting Nintendo Switch 2 going forward and phasing out Switch 1

Falcom has discussed its support moving forward for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch.

For many years, the studio was strongly associated with PlayStation. However, that started to change significantly during the Nintendo Switch era. Many of Falcom’s releases found their way to the system, and now we’re starting to see that with Nintendo Switch 2 as well. The initial lineup for that console includes Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, Ys X: Proud Nordics, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon.

According to Falcom CEO Toshihiro Kondo, the studio is focusing on Nintendo Switch 2 now. As for the original Nintendo Switch, support is likely to fall off in the next couple of years, which makes sense given the age of the system.

Kondo told Dengeki the following (via machine translation):

“We’ll be working on the Nintendo Switch 2 properly from now on. Regardless of whether we release it simultaneously or not, we want to continue with the platforms we’re currently working on.

The release date may change depending on the platform due to factors such as the number of people who can play, but ultimately we want to stick with the current platform.

That said, if it’s two years from now, it probably won’t be on the Nintendo Switch (the current console). The PS4 has settled down a bit now, so we didn’t release a PS4 version this time.

In the Trails series, many people are waiting for the sequel to Trails of the World, but many people are playing it on PS4, so we’re wondering what to do about it.”

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter came to Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch not too long ago. Find our review of the game here.
