Japan’s best-selling games of December 2025 – Mario Kart World closes out the year strong
New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of December 2025.
It was another strong month from Nintendo with Mario Kart World taking the top spot. Pokemon Legends: Z-A also did well in their second month, and if you combine both versions, they were right there with Mario Kart in terms of sales.
Below is the full list of Japan’s best-selling games of December 2025:

2. [NSW] Pokemon Legends: Z-A – 223,022 / 1,529,823
3. [NS2] Pokemon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – 186,108 / 1,004,154
4. [NS2] Kirby Air Riders – 182,956 / 424,837
5. [NS2] Momotaro Dentetsu 2 – 95,247 / 188,535
Nintendo was Japan’s top publisher for December having sold 1,121,000 copies at retail. The Pokemon Company, which is counted separately, comes in at second with over 430,000 units sold.
For hardware, Nintendo Switch 2 sold roughly 816,000 for its second best month in Japan. Total sales of the console in the country sit at over 3.7 million units. The original Nintendo Switch also sold quite a bit, coming in at more than 150,000 units for December. That was actually a slight increase month-over-month by around 12,000 units.
