Animaniacs: Hollywood Hypnotics

After many years, fans have recovered the lost Game Boy Advance game Animaniacs: Hollywood Hypnotics and shared a build of the project online.

Full Fat Productions was behind the 2D platformer, which was never released. The game did not launch despite the fact that it was pretty much finished. Fans have recovered a new build in which you can make it all the way to the end with a fight against Pink and Brain.

For the rest of the game, players solve puzzles in six studio lots using items found around the map or traded with NPCs. The build does have some rough edges like non-obvious alternate paths, unclear item interactions, misleading NPC dialogue, and a double-jump mechanic that can be glitched through rapid button mashing. Although it could use some polish, the fact that the title is playable and online for others to check out is a big win the video game preservation community.

As for why Animaniacs: Hollywood Hypnotics, it comes down to publisher business. Conspiracy Entertainment was originally in charge of things before Swing Entertainment took over. Everything came to an end in 2003 after Swing entered insolvency proceedings.
