Antonblast delayed

October 12: Antonblast was last planned for November, but the game is being delayed by a few weeks.

Summitsphere shared an update in a statement posted today. After the team has been impacted by the recent hurricanes in the United States, more time will be needed to get things back to normal and wrap up everything needed for launch.

We were originally planning on seeing Antonblast on the Switch eShop next month. However, it has now been pushed back to December 3.

The full statement from studio head Tony Grayson is as follows:

This is Tony, Studio Head at Summitsphere and Director on Antonblast.

Summitsphere is a studio with roots planted across the southeastern United States, and as you’ve likely heard, Hurricanes Helene and Milton have ravaged this area in particular. Relief efforts are currently underway for those impacted; we’re sharing links to some of those so you can contribute if you like.

As for us, we are thankfully all safe… but the hurricanes have directly and indirectly affected a number of our team and their ability to work, with some going weeks without power.

I have personally gone on record stating that the team has no interest in releasing anything less than the best version of Antonblast. As such, we have made the difficult decision to delay the game’s launch from November 12 to December 3.

Now, I can appreciate that having to wait that much longer kinda sucks…

So to make it up to you, I’m happy to announce that we’re bringing you One Blast Demo, playable at Steam Next Fest next week. This demo will feature a totally revamped Boiler City, as well as the “never-before-playable Slowroast Sewer (and maybe a few other surprises, too).

We’ll also be making efforts to bring One Blast Demo as an update to Nintendo Switch within the coming weeks, pending platform approval.

All of us at Summitsphere are looking forward to bringing Antonblast to you very soon. Thank you for the endless support you’ve shown us.

We’ll let you know if there happen to be any other release date changes. In the meantime, check out our original report on the game here.

December 2: Antonblast has been delayed further, but only on Nintendo Switch. Summitsphere put out a statement that “this version will not be ready on time” as the team needs to ensure that it’s “running at peak performance and meeting our own high standards, as well as Nintendo’s.” No release date has been shared, but the target is by the end of the year.

The full statement is as follows:

This is Tony Grayson, Studio Head at Summitsphere. I’m writing today with some news about Antonblast’s Nintendo Switch version.

We were very optimistic about launching the Nintendo Switch release day and date with the Steam version on December 3rd and have been working down to the wire to make sure it’s the absolute best it can be. However, it’s become apparent today that this version will not be ready on time for that date.

The reason for this is simple: We need more time to make sure that this version of the game is running at peak performance and meeting our own high standards, as well as Nintendo’s.

I can appreciate that this delay may be frustrating and I’d like to take this opportunity to personally apologize for the short notice.

Our partners at Nintendo have been incredible to work with, and together we are committed to giving Switch players the best experience possible. We are now in the process of sorting out the new release date on a schedule that works for all parties.

While I don’t have a specific date to announce today, we are aiming to release on Switch before end of year and will keep our fans updated every step of the way.

The Steam version of Antonblast will launch as planned on December 3rd at 12pm EST.

For Kickstarter backers who wanted a Nintendo Switch key: You can swap to Steam on your Fangamer survey at anytime, or simply hold off until the Switch version launches.

We’ll be doing a Twitch livestream that morning in anticipation of the launch, answering fan questions and showcasing the game. I hope I can see you all there!

Thank you all for your patience and support… we couldn’t do this without you.

December 6: In the latest update to this story, we have a new release date. The game heads to Nintendo Switch on December 13, 2024.
