Beat ’em up game Paprium coming to Switch
Despite being a 2020 title, WaterMelon released its beat ’em up game Paprium on the SEGA Genesis. It was similar to Pier Solar and the Great Architects, which started out on the classic console, but later ended up on Wii U.
As for Paprium, the title is now making the jump to new consoles, including Switch. The team had been looking to raise $299,999, but has already demolished that goal with the campaign generating about $450,000 with a month and a half to go.
So what exactly is Paprium? Other than having beat ’em up gameplay, WaterMelon says it’s a “brutal” title “with a unique take on the genre such as multiple paths and hints of RPG elements.” It pays homage to some famous games like Streets of Rage, Final Fight, and Double Dragon.
When the game comes to Switch, the original pixel graphics will be retained so that it’ll look nice on modern flat screens. WaterMelon is using a technique involving advanced real-time intelligence algorithms to “re-transcript the CRT feel to a huge flat screen without getting you a sun-burn or premature ARMD.” Flickering effects will be toned down to be a bit more compatible.
