Donkey Kong Bananza limited-time Emerald Rush event guide
Donkey Kong Bananza’s first limited-time Emerald Rush event is live, and we’ve got some tips and tricks so you can get all of its rewards in one go.
A while back, we compiled an even larger collection of tips and tricks for Emerald Rush. Those still apply here, so we’d highly recommend reading it in case you need to brush up on your skills. Fortunately, this event is actually far easier than getting an emerald medal on the highest difficulty of any given stage. To obtain the exclusive Enguarde and Kong Bananza statues, you’ll need to collect 1 million emeralds in a single round. That sounds daunting, but the reason this event is easier is because all of the emerald perks that appear revolve around chips. That means every single emerald perk you choose will actually be helpful – unlike non-event Emerald Rush runs, where you have to sift through dozens of bonuses that don’t immediately bring you any benefit.

The Chip Fever event is actually neat, because it shows you a viable strategy to win non-event Emerald Rush runs as well: chips. Indeed, all of the emerald perks revolve around them. Your game plan here is to smash as many fossils as possible and clear as many Void Goals as possible so that you can load up on emerald perks. From there, gather as many chips as you possibly can. Then, during round 9 or 10, look for the Smelting Green perk to turn all of your chips into emeralds. If you’ve saved up enough chips, you might even be able to get 1 million emeralds in one fell swoop just from a single Smelting Green perk – that’s what I did, and I had already collected 1 million emeralds by that point even without it. If you’re new to Emerald Rush, that means you might not be very familiar with all of the fossil locations. Those are really important here, because you get an additional emerald perk every time you smash one. In this case, I would recommend getting the Fossil Radar bonus – that will show you the location of every single uncollected fossil on the layer.
This time around, you also only get one Warp Barrel. Fortunately, the event is held on DK Island, which is mostly quick to travel through especially if you get Zebra Bananza from a banana. You’ll still want to make good use of that one Warp Barrel per round, though. If the Void Goal you’re going for winds up at the other side of the island, that’s a good time to use the barrel. Any Void Goal at the Banandiumtone’s Floating Island is another good contender for the warp barrel. It’s also a good idea to focus on emerald perks that increase the number of chips you get from enemies – the treasure-based perks you see in this event are fine, but not necessary to get a high score. Load up on perks, defeat tons of enemies, and then go for Smelting Green during round 9 or 10 and you should be all set. Using these tricks, I got a high score of 4 million – four times higher than the 1 million you need for all the rewards.
In the meantime, you can learn more about Donkey Kong Bananza’s Emerald Rush DLC at the official website. DK Island isn’t the main attraction – Emerald Rush itself can easily double your play time on the game if you love roguelikes.
