GameStop cites Switch as a catalyst for driving sales

GameStop reported its second quarter 2017 financial results today. This was for the period ending July 29.

In its release, GameStop cited Switch as a primary factor for growth. The system helped drive a 1.9 percent increase in same store sales.

Paul Raines, chief executive officer, also mentioned:

“Our second quarter sales results were driven by continued strong demand for Nintendo Switch and Collectibles. Looking at the second half of 2017, the Nintendo Switch, the launch of Microsoft’s Xbox One X, and a solid slate of AAA titles should drive growth in the video game category.”

According to GameStop, new hardware sales increased 14.8 percent, “led by continued demand for Nintendo Switch.” “Worldwide omnichannel sales increased by 86.2% as the company promoted and secured leading market share of Nintendo Switch,” the retailer additionally said.
