Groudon location guide in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Indigo Disk

Posted on January 3, 2024 by in Guides, Switch

Groudon can now be found in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet as part of The Indigo Disk DLC, and for those of you looking to know where to find it, we’ve published a location guide.

Groudon is a member of the weather trio that also includes Kyogre and Rayquaza. Like all the Legendary Pokemon available in The Indigo Disk, it is available from an NPC named Snacksworth who stands right outside Blueberry Academy after you finish the main story. If you’re looking for the exact Groudon location on the Paldea map, you’ve come to the right place.

To obtain snacks from Snacksworth, you’ll need to finish solo quests (BBQs). Every time you clear 10 of these, you qualify for a new snack from Snacksworth. The snack you get is randomly selected from a pool of Legendary Pokemon, so you’ll have to keep at it until you get the Groudon snack. As you can see from the image above, the location for Groudon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet via the DLC is at the bottom-left portion of Paldea near Alfornada. More specifically, it’s in Alfornada Cavern. Try your best to get to the location shown above and you should find Groudon standing there with its back to a wall.

Groudon appears as Level 70, and it knows two problematic moves: Fissure and Rest. Make sure you bring a Pokemon higher than Level 70 so that Fissure never works on it. It might be a good idea to bring a Pokemon with Taunt and a move to put it to sleep (Hypnosis or Spore) or a move to paralyze it (Glare). If you’re looking to catch Groudon in a matching Poke Ball, you can use a Repeat Ball or a normal Poke Ball. Keep in mind that it’s Shiny locked, so it can never appear Shiny no matter how many times you reset.

We have guides available for more Legendary Pokemon locations, and you can find our master list of them through this link. Feel free to let us know if you have any suggestions for future guides, too.
