how to beat cohozuna Splatoon 3

A little while ago, we published guides on how to beat both Horrorboros and Megalodontia in Splatoon 3. This time, it’s time to talk about how to beat Cohozuna, the original King Salmonid that’s been present in Splatoon 3 ever since its launch.

Whereas Horrorboros is generally the easiest King Salmonid to defeat right now and Megalodontia is the most difficult, Cohozuna lies somewhere in between. It doesn’t have any particular weak spot, so the fight all comes down to how fast you can defeat other Boss Salmonids and how well you can aim your Golden Egg cannon. If you’re looking for tips and tricks on how to beat Cohozuna, then let’s get right into our guide.

How to beat Cohozuna in Splatoon 3

As with all other King Salmonids, you’ll be given a Golden Egg cannon when a Cohozuna spawns. Rather than place the eggs in a basket, your goal here is to take down Boss Salmonids, take their eggs, and then throw them at the Cohozuna itself. This is how you’ll deal damage the fastest. Cohozuna itself attacks by using a pseudo-splashdown; it’ll jump high in the air, a reticle will appear on the ground, and it will land on the reticle and splat those around it. It’s not too threatening on its own, which should give you some time to splat other Boss Salmonids.

If you’re looking for tips on how to beat Cohozuna even faster, however, Golden Eggs alone might not cut it. It’s often a good idea to damage Cohozuna with your main weapon, too, but this is somewhat dependent on the rotation of weapons. If it includes something like a Hydra Splatling, Dapple Dualies, or Sploosh-o-matic, you can use these weapons to continuously whittle away at Cohozuna’s health while your teammates throw Golden Eggs at it. Specials like Crab Tank work great for dealing damage too, but don’t use them too close to the Cohozuna. It has a close-ranged attack too that can destroy a Crab Tank if you’re not careful!

Whether you win or lose against Cohozuna, you’ll earn King Salmonid scales based on your performance. If you manage to quickly defeat it, you’ll receive more scales and there’s a higher chance that you’ll receive silver or gold scales as opposed to just copper ones. This number also scales along with your Salmon Run rank, with it capping out once you reach Eggsecutive VP. During Big Run events, you will earn more King Salmonid scales every time you go up against one!

Splatoon 3 is available now for  Switch, and you can find the official site right here. Happy splatting!
