Mario Luigi Brothership all challenges

If you’re going for full 100 percent completion in Mario & Luigi: Brothership, one part of the game you’ll need to clear is its 29 challenges. Despite being called challenges, most of these actually aren’t particularly challenging at all – moreso time-consuming. Challenges are completed by performing certain tasks in battle, and clearing each one grants a small reward. We’ve completed all 29 challenges in Mario & Luigi: Brothership and have a few tips for you if you’re looking to do the same.

Do note that some of these challenges involve using Bros. Moves, which means the name and identity of all ten Bros. Attacks will be spoiled here. The names of certain locations will be listed as well. We won’t be including any story details, however, so keep that in mind before you move on.

List of challenges in Mario & Luigi: Brothership

Mario & Luigi: Brothership challenges

A good chunk of the challenges listed below are fairly self-explanatory, but we’ve included tips for them wherever possible.

  • Jump-Combo Expert: Receive an EXCELLENT rating on Jump combo attacks 30 times. You need both brothers active to count towards this!
  • Hammer-Combo Expert: Same as above, except with Hammer combo attacks instead.
  • Red Shell Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Red Shell Bros. Move. If you’re already in the endgame, you can simply find an enemy in the final dungeon and spam Red Shell against it to increase this number faster. You can also use the Performance Bonus Battle Plug to use up less of your BP.
  • Green Shell Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Green Shell Bros. Move.
  • Hatch Me If You Can Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Hatch Me If You Can Bros. Move.
  • Zapperator Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Zapperator Bros. Move.
  • Bomb Derby Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Bomb Derby Bros. Move. This is actually slightly tricky to nail the timing of if you aren’t used to it; it’s tough to explain through text, but you have to press right on the control stick roughly once per second and then the A button half a second later. You can practice this move in Snoutlet School in the settings if you’re having trouble.
  • Jump Helmet Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Jump Helmet Bros. Move.
  • Clockout Blow Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Clockout Blow Bros. Move.
  • Yoo Who Cannon Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Yoo Who Cannon Bros. Move.
  • Conductor Connector Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Conductor Connector Bros. Move. This attack eats up a ton of BP, so we’d definitely recommend the Performance Bonus Battle Plug mentioned earlier. For the second and especially the third wave of planets, you’ll need to aim ahead of the planet’s current location and intercept it.
  • Max-Mix Vortex Expert: Earn 30 EXCELLENT ratings with the Max-Mix Vortex Bros. Move.
  • Watchful Eye: Dodge or counter enemy attacks 100 times.
  • Damage Dodger: Win 100 battles without taking any damage.
  • Lucky Star: Get 250 Lucky hits against enemies. This is easiest to do with Luigi if you boost up his Stache points.
  • Item Buffet: Use a total of 20 items in battle.
  • Flying Start: Start battles with first strikes 30 times.
  • Monster Buster: Defeat 999 enemies. This sounds like a pain, but if you do all the game’s side content and level up sufficiently this won’t be a problem.
  • Zokket Buster: Defeat 250 Zok Troopers. You likely will not finish this one just by playing through the story, so we’d recommend clearing out the fourth Great Lighthouse Island, traveling to another Great Lighthouse Island, and doing the same there. Go back and forth until you’ve got the achievement.
  • Minion Buster: Defeat 300 of Bowser’s minions. They usually spawn in groups, making them easy to take out with a Bros. Move. You can head to Offandon Island or Bowser’s Castle until you’ve completed the challenge.
  • Glohm Buster: Defeat 150 Glohm enemies. This is very easy in the endgame, as there is no shortage of Glohm opponents to battle.
  • Coin Enthusiast: Receive a total of 5,000 coins in battle. The Coinpiler Battle Plug definitely helps with this.
  • Coin Collector: Receive a total of 15,000 coins in battle.
  • Coin King: Receive a total of 50,000 coins in battle.
  • A Painful Blow: Deal 1,000 damage or more with one attack.
  • A More Painful Blow: Deal 1,500 damage or more with one attack.
  • An Even More Painful Blow: Deal 2,000 damage or more with one attack. We’d recommend holding off until the very end of the game; using the Bros. Boost Battle Plug, high-tier gear, and a strong Bros. Move like Jump Helmet will often do the trick against low-level enemies with low defense.
  • Doom Dodger: Win 100 battles in a row without getting a Game Over.
  • Do It Yourself: Defeat 300 enemies without equipping any wear, gloves, or accessories. The final challenge in Mario & Luigi: Brothership is also the most tedious – so much so, that we have its own separate guide.

We’re not exactly sure why there are 29 challenges in this game and not an even 30, but overall, they aren’t too difficult to complete. Our coverage of guides for Mario & Luigi: Brothership is still ongoing, and we’ll be back with even more guides on side quests, mini-games, and more.
