Xenoblade Chronicles X How to get pet dogs and cats

Many of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’s Heart-to-Heart events require a pet dog or cat, and you can’t get any until you take on and complete the Nine Lives Affinity Mission that you can find in New Los Angeles. Once you do that, though, you’ll be able to access many more Heart-to-Heart events. Here’s everything you need to know on how to get pets in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Nine Lives quest

Once you’ve accepted the Nine Lives mission, your quest tracker will take you to an area underneath the administrative district. You’ll have to search this area for a tip about the lost cat’s whereabouts. If you look at the image above, you can see where to find this tip – it’s near some tents. From there, fast travel to the Integrated Production Plant point on the west end of the city. Talk to Mathias and then follow him to the Cliffside Beach. Once there, save Mathias from the enemy attacking him. You’ll then scare off the cat, and you will need to gather three pieces of catnip that are marked on your map. Return to Cliffside Beach afterward and defend the cat from the monster. Finally, head back to New Los Angeles to finish up the quest.

Now that the quest is done, you can head to the BLADE Barracks to choose a pet you want to keep there. This also unlocks several basic missions that you can take on over at Mission Control. These are all called Search Request, and the lost pet in question will be marked on your map too. You’ll need to complete Search Request missions to get dogs and cats. Once you’ve picked a pet over at the BLADE Barracks you can access those Heart-to-Hearts you were missing.
