fusion accidents Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Fusion accidents are a rare occurrence in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, and in this guide we’ll go over how to deliberately trigger them, as well as the demons that can only be acquired this way. Fusion is an integral part of the game and is something you’ll need to come to grips with to get the best possible demons for your party.

Preparations

Before you start trying to trigger a fusion accident, we’d recommend you make the following preparations:

  • Learn Mutative Element. This costs 100 Glory, and is found in the Doctrine tree. This is a togglable Miracle that greatly increases your chances of triggering a fusion accident.
  • Recruit or summon a demon that you don’t intend to use in your party. This will be the demon you use each time you fuse until you reach the desired outcome.
  • Build up a supply of Macca. You’ll want to use Dyad Compendium Fusion to fuse demons, rather than the ones you actually use in your active party, and this costs a lot of Macca at higher levels.
  • Learn all three tiers of the Summoner’s Hospitality Miracle. This is purely optional but allows you to fuse demons at a cheaper cost, making your Macca reserves last longer.

How to trigger Fusion accidents in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Fusion accidents only occur during the Full and New Moon. From there it’s all a matter of luck unfortunately, you just have to keep fusing demons until you trigger the fusion accident. Without the Mutative Element Miracle the odds are quite low, but with it you should be seeing a fusion accident quite frequently.

The Moon cycle will advance naturally as you play the game, so if you’re not at either stage yet, spend some time running around in an area of Da’at until you reach one of them. At that point, head to the nearest Leyline Fount and enter the World of Shadows. Time doesn’t advance here, so you’re free to stay here for as long as you need to without worrying you’ll have to wait for the Moon to move back into the required stage.

Make sure you save your game! The odds are that you’re not going to get the demon you’re after the first time around, and the demons you’ll get as a result of fusion accidents are generally of a lower quality than the ones you can deliberately create yourself. If you’re after the demons you can only create via fusion accidents, it could be a while before you see them.

Try to fuse into demons around the same level or slightly higher than the demon that you’re trying to create. Although it’s not guaranteed, generally you’ll fuse into a demon around the same level as the one you were trying to create. If you don’t get what you want after you’ve exhausted your supply of Macca, reload your save and try again.

Fusion Accident exclusive demons

Three of the new demons introduced in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance can only be acquired through Fusion accidents:

Hare of Inaba is the lowest level fusion accident exclusive, at Level 31.

Amabie is another fusion accident exclusive, and is Level 39.

Kinmamon is the final fusion accident exclusive demon, and is Level 68.

It can take a while before you fuse these demons, especially with Hare of Inaba and Amabie being around the same level range, but perseverance will eventually pay off.
