Japan’s best-selling games of December 2024
New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of December 2024.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake was the top seller last month, but now settles for second place. It’s Super Mario Party Jamboree that manages to come out on top this time around.
There’s also a little tidbit for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It was not in the top five, but Famitsu confirms that over eight million copies have now been sold at retail.
Here’s the full list of Japan’s best-selling games of December 2024:

2. [NSW] Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake – 218,317 / 930,505
3. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 102,685 / 6,167,617
4. [NSW] Minecraft – 80,541 / 3,762,586
5. [NSW] Mario & Luigi: Brothership – 76,531 / 165,060
Nintendo was back in the top slot in terms of publisher sales with 1,268,000 units sold at retail. Square Enix was next with 342,000 copies, with Konami coming in third at 112,000 units.
For hardware, Nintendo Switch continued its run as the top system. 452,000 units were sold in Japan last month. There was an extra week of data tracking here, but the holidays provided a boost as well.
