New data gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of May 2024.
Nintendo put out two new games during the month, and both are in the top three. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door comes in first with over 100,000 physical copies sold. Endless Ocean Luminous also makes the list at #3 with a little over 40,000 units.
Here’s the full list of Japan’s best-selling games of May 2024:

3. [NSW] Endless Ocean Luminous – 42,847 / NEW
4. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 36,376 / 5,848,388
5. [NSW] Ring Fit Adventure – 25,026 / 3,575,312
In terms of hardware, Switch sold another 192,824 units. That’s down month-over-month, but the total sits at 32.95 million units. We previously reported that Switch outsold DS in Japan to become the best-selling gaming system of all time in the country.
We’ll also mention that Nintendo again was the top publisher in Japan, and it wasn’t really close once again. The company sold 467,000 units. The next closest was Sony at 65,000 units.
