Japan’s best-selling games of September 2024

New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of September 2024.

Unlike last month, the top five was mostly comprised of new titles. Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom topped the chart with just a few days of data with 200,000 copies sold. 

There are a couple of milestones to point out. First, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has surpassed six million copies sold at retail. Also, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold over two million units at retail.

Here’s the full list of Japan’s best-selling games of September 2024:

4. [PS5] Gundam Breaker 4 – 42,541 / NEW
5. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 40,443 / 6,011,624

Nintendo continued its streak as the top publisher in Japan having sold close to 600,000 pieces of software at retail. Echoes of Wisdom was the main reason for that number, but Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club contributed as well as the company’s back catalog of games.

Given how things have played out in Japan previously, it comes as no surprise that Switch was the best-selling console for September 2024. 308,404 units were sold compared to the PS5’s 74,523 total. One thing that gave the system a boost was the new Hyrule Edition Switch Lite that launched with Echoes of Wisdom.
