Japan’s top 10 best-selling games of 2025 revealed, hardware rankings – Nintendo Switch 2 dominates
A new report from Famitsu has revealed the best-selling games of 2025 and provides insight into hardware sales. The information is based on data collected between December 30, 2024 and December 28, 2025.
2025 was another strong year for Nintendo in Japan, propped up by Nintendo Switch 2 and some notable games. Mario Kart World was the best-selling title at 2,668,381 copies sold. Pokemon Legends: Z-A wasn’t far behind – it sold a little over 2.5 million units at retail.
The list of ten top best-selling games of 2025 in Japan is as follows:

For hardware sales, Nintendo Switch 2 was on top with 3,784,067 units sold. Still, the original Nintendo Switch sold a decent amount at 1,520,384 units.

Thanks to Nintendo Switch 2, the Japanese market saw a big increase year-over-year. Sales were up 138.8 percent, hardware jumped 149.3 percent, and software rose 121 percent.
