Ken Kutaragi, the father of PlayStation, has a Nintendo PlayStation tucked away in his closet
It’s been revealed that PlayStation co-creator Ken Kutaragi has a Nintendo PlayStation prototype tucked away in his closest, and it’s a bit different from the hardware we’ve seen previously.
Julian Domanski, a professional photographer in Japan, recently met up with Kutaragi and shared a few photos of the hardware on social media. Needless to say, these things are pretty rare. Domanski mentioned that “the last one in existence was believed to have sold at auction for $300,000.”
Here’s the full set of images:
It’s widely known at this point that the Nintendo PlayStation – which was planned as a SNES CD attachment – never made it to market. But a few years ago, one of the original Sony PlayStation prototypes had been found. It seems that the one Kutaragi owns came either earlier or later during development.
Here’s a look at the previous version of the Nintendo PlayStation:
Aside from the color of the actual hardware, there are slight differences with the eject and reset buttons. On top of that, the PlayStation logo is noticeably more vibrant.
News about the Nintendo PlayStation is still trickling out despite the project’s cancellation many years ago. Just last month, we heard about a space shooter that was once in development for the hardware. Catch up on that here.
Thanks to Domanski for the photos above.
