The Creator of Super Smash Bros. Delivers an Action-Packed Portable Game with Airborne and Land-Based Battles, Wireless Multiplayer Modes, Augmented-Reality Features and Stunning 3D Visuals

REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Nintendo 3DS users are in for an unforgettable adventure when Kid Icarus: Uprising launches across North America on March 23. With immersive 3D graphics and boundless action that up to six players can enjoy together, the game makes extraordinary use of the portable Nintendo 3DS system’s unique wireless capabilities and augmented-reality features. It also marks the return of a fan-favorite Nintendo character, the heroic angel Pit, who made his debut in the original Kid Icarus game for the NES console. From the mind of Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai, Kid Icarus: Uprising invites experienced and new gamers alike to discover the fun of this timeless franchise as they embark on an epic journey with Pit by air and on land.

In Kid Icarus: Uprising, Pit must defend himself against the dark goddess Medusa and her malevolent Underworld Army. With help from Palutena, goddess of light and guardian of the human race, he battles enemies in the air and on the ground as each chapter is divided into Air Battle and Land Battle stages. Players can enhance the action with a nearly unlimited arsenal of collectible weapons, from Bows to Cannons to Claws, each with its own unique characteristics and play style. Players can also fuse weapons together, resulting in a single weapon that combines certain characteristics of the original two.

As many as six players with their own Nintendo 3DS systems and Kid Icarus: Uprising game cards can compete against each other in new multiplayer modes. Light vs. Dark mode puts players in a three-on-three battle where they must work with their team, and Free-for-All mode is an everybody-for-themselves battle royale. Weapons and skills collected in single-player action carry over to multiplayer, giving players an incentive to play stages again and again to collect the best gear for multiplayer skirmishes.

Every Kid Icarus: Uprising game comes with six special AR Cards that let players bring the game’s imaginative characters to life right before their eyes. By scanning the cards with the Nintendo 3DS system’s built-in camera and facing them together, they can watch characters go head to head in AR Card Battle mode. Additional AR Cards will be available to collect separately.

“Kid Icarus: Uprising is not only an amazing game but also a terrific showcase for Nintendo 3DS,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “With local and online multiplayer modes, AR Card compatibility and 3D visuals that can be enjoyed without the need for special glasses, it’s the kind of immersive hand-held experience that only Nintendo 3DS can offer.”

A unique control scheme built specifically for this game lets players hold the system in their left hand while using their right hand to target enemies on the touch screen with the stylus. Players can also use an included stand to keep the system upright and at an angle. The game also features alternate control schemes for left-handed players.
