Megabyte Punch removed from the Switch eShop in Europe and Australia, Team Reptile unsure why
It’s been just over a week since Megabyte Punch, Team Reptile’s beat ’em up game, was added to the Switch eShop. Everything with its release seemed to have gone well, but a new issue has cropped up. The developer has gotten in touch to inform us that Megabyte Punch is currently unavailable in certain regions.
Those interested in Megabyte Punch can grab it from the North American eShop. However, the same can’t be same of Europe and Australia. It’s nowhere to be found, and Team Reptile has no idea at present why it’s been taken down. The team did reach out to Nintendo, but has not received a response thus far.
Team Reptile shared the following in a statement:
Last Friday (May 8th) we released our electro-beat ’m-up game Megabyte Punch on the Nintendo Switch. The game was performing well and was already breaking even for us. However, last night we received messages from within our community that they were unable to purchase the game on the Australian version of the eShop. It appeared the game was pulled off both the European and Australian eShop.
We have no idea why this happened nor were we notified by Nintendo about this. We have reached out but have yet to receive a response. At the time of writing, the game has been unavailable for purchase for at least 12 hours in Europe and Australia.
As you might expect, the first week is especially important for a game’s release. We’re unsure if it is a technical problem with the eShop or if the game was pulled due to a certain bug. While we admit there are bugs to be found in the game, this is true for every new release. Nintendo themselves have tested the game to make sure it fits their quality standards. On top of that, a patch is already being processed that solved several bugs found in the game. But it would not explain the game being unavailable only in certain regions.
Either way, we are being completely left in the dark about this and we’d like to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
We’ll keep track of the situation and will provide additional updates as they’re made available.
