Today, we’re nearly wrapping up our coverage of Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC with a Moltres location guide. As a reminder, you can only catch returning Legendary Pokemon after you clear The Indigo Disk’s main story. They’re unavailable for capture in the base game.

Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres are the original trio of Legendary Pokemon introduced in the very first generation. As with most of their catchable appearances, none of these Pokemon are exclusive to Pokemon Scarlet or Pokemon Violet – you can catch all three Legendary birds regardless of the game you’re playing.

In order to “activate” the Moltres location shown above, you need to have a corresponding Moltres snack in your party. To get this, you’ll need to talk to an NPC named Snacksworth who appears in Blueberry Academy’s lobby after you clear the DLC’s main story. Every time you clear either 10 Solo Quests or 1 Group Quest, he’ll give you a snack that corresponds to a random Legendary Pokemon. There’s no way to manipulate this to get the snack you want, so you’ll need to clear quests over and over again. It’s important to note that some Legendary Pokemon are locked behind Group Quests, so it’s impossible to catch all the returning Legendary Pokemon without teaming up with other players.

Once you’ve obtained the Moltres snack, you can find it at the north end of Asado Desert on top of a cliff. It appears at Level 70 and knows Overheat, Sky Attack, and Hurricane. Make sure you come prepared! That being said, once Moltres uses Overheat, its Sp. Attack drops until you capture or defeat it, which means it becomes a whole lot less threatening. If you’re looking to catch it in a matching Poke Ball, a Repeat Ball works great here.

In addition to Moltres’ location, we have guides available for the rest of the Legendary Pokemon locations in Scarlet and Violet too. You can find our master list of them through this link. Feel free to let us know if you have any suggestions for future guides, too.
