Nintendo and Genki reach settlement in Switch 2 lawsuit

Posted on September 9, 2025 by in News, Switch 2

Accessories manufacturer Genki has finally reached a settlement in the lawsuit Nintendo filed against them earlier this year.

Before the Switch 2 was officially announced, Genki had actually leaked the design of the system a number of times. At their CES 2025 booth, Genki’s CEO personally showed off 3D printed replicas of the Switch 2 to reporters, and did multiple interviews confirming details about the system Nintendo had yet to announce. Genki also displayed a 3D rendered video of the Switch 2, including the consoles logo. This video was also later posted to the official Genki website.

Nintendo filed a lawsuit claiming that not only Genki “demoed and promoted unauthorized purported mockups and renderings of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its accessories”; but they also violated their trademarks through confusing phrasing such as the “Glitch 2” line of accessories. Genki soon made a statement, and things went radio silent for a while.

Nintendo and Genki have settled, with Genki paying the video game corporation an undisclosed amount of money in damages. Not only that, but Genki has also agreed to no longer use certain aspects that could allude to Nintendo IP. This includes logos, trademarks, color schemes, and even phrasing such as the aforementioned “Glitch 2”.
