Microsoft began manufacturing the Xbox 360 in Brazil back in 2011. And last month, Sony announced that it would be doing the same for the PlayStation 3.

Nintendo now appears to be looking into evaluating similar for the Wii U. Speaking with Portuguese publication G1, company president Satoru Iwata confirmed that Nintendo is looking into manufacturing Wii U units in Brazil.

He said:

“The social structure of Brazil today is important to think about assembling or manufacturing in the country. We understand the importance of it. What I can say is that we are evaluating and studying the possibility of manufacturing the Wii U in Brazil, but we have nothing to announce right now.”

Iwata also apologized for not releasing the system in Brazil yet. A release is targeted for late 2013.

“Nintendo recognizes the importance of Brazil and its market, and for us [Brazil] is among the 10 markets with the greatest potential in the world. Sorry for not having launched the machine in Brazil for a number of reasons. Our forecast is to launch in late 2013.”
