Nintendo on AI: there’ll always be a human touch in how we make our games
Nintendo has again commented on AI with the latest remarks coming from Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser.
The tech is being used more and more with each passing day, including in the gaming industry for development. However, it doesn’t appear that we’ll be seeing Nintendo making great use of it while working on projects anytime soon.
Bowser, in an interview with CNBC, spoke about how AI is “not the only method of developing games.” He also pointed to the importance of Nintendo’s developers and “their artistic capabilities”. Bowser concluded by noting that there’ll always be “a human touch” in how the Big N’s games are made.
“If developers choose to use AI, and it is a discussion right now at Nintendo, it’s not the only method of developing games. We still believe that what makes our games special is our developers, their artistic capabilities, their insight into how people play. There’s always, always going to be a human touch, and a human engagement in how we develop and build our games.”
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto spoke about AI a few months ago. In his remarks, he said that “Nintendo would rather go in a different direction”. Read his full words here.
