Nintendo to deal with Switch 2 scalping by making enough hardware
Nintendo is looking to ease concerns about Switch 2 scalping, and believes it won’t be an issue when the system launches.
President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed a question about the situation during the a financial results briefing last week. When asked how Nintendo will ensure that scalping doesn’t happen, Furukawa said that the company will meet demand by producing enough units. He also brought up that other measures are being considered within the law.
Even Switch itself has been subject to some scalping – and certainly scarcity – in certain years. During the pandemic as one example, Nintendo as well as other companies struggled with hardware production due to semiconductor components, and it was unable to produce enough units. However, Furukawa pointed out that this is no longer an issue, and shortages of parts are not expected to impact Switch 2 in any way – so there’s no reason to fear a potential scalping issue at this time.
Fans are waiting to see what Nintendo has in store for its next system, which will launch at least eight years after the current Switch’s release. It’s been confirmed that an announcement will be made by March 2025. However, Nintendo hasn’t provided a timeframe for actual launch.
