Update: There are some reports that the new firmware also adds colors for the StreetPass feature in 3DS Sound. The Internet browser has also received a new version, though it isn’t clear if it brings any new functionality.

A new 3DS firmware update is available for download for all system owners. Although the upgrade doesn’t add any significant functionality, users must apply the new software in order to access features such as system transfers. Nintendo describes the update as “further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.”

The last major update for the 3DS was released on June 6, which added the eShop, Internet browser, and system transfer tool. Firmware 2.1.0-3U was issued a little more than a week later to fix an issue with Ridge Racer 3D.

The latest firmware is 2.1.0-4U. As the menu name suggests, it’s not a significant upgrade.
