Nintendo rep indicates Zelda: The Wind Waker HD could still come to Switch 2 despite GameCube Switch Online version
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is still only on Wii U, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will never receive a Nintendo Switch 2 port.
Tim Gettys of Kinda Funny Games was recently able to get some hands on time with the new system during a press event. He also spoke with a representative and asked about the status of The Wind Waker HD. Wind Waker will be launching on Nintendo Switch 2, but that’s through Nintendo Switch Online with the new addition of GameCube classics.
Gettys shared the following:
“I did ask if having The Wind Waker on NSO precludes it from the Switch 2 getting the actual Wii U port at some point, and he was very quick to say ‘no, all options are on the table’. Obviously, nothing is confirmed one way or another.”
Nintendo brought over a bunch of its Wii U titles to Switch over the years. Most recently, Xenoblade Chronicles X saw a new version with its Definitive Edition. Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are one of the few last remaining Nintendo-published Wii U ports that fans had been requesting. While the HD version is only on Wii U – at least for now – you’ll be able to play Wind Waker on Nintendo Switch 2 very soon.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD was more than just a graphical update. The game moved the map and inventory screen to the GamePad, added some gyroscope controls, introduced the Swift Sail for faster sailing, streamlined the Triforce quest, improved the Picto Box, and replaced the Tingle Tuner with a Tingle Bottle item that worked with Miiverse.
As for GameCube games on Nintendo Switch Online, you can see which titles have been confirmed so far here.
