Nintendo says it doesn’t have anti-takeover measures, but has systems in place against it
What would happen if another company attempted to initiate a hostile takeover of Nintendo because they were after the company’s IPs. Would the Big N be able to protect itself? That’s something an investor wanted to know at Nintendo’s 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders a few days ago.
President Shuntaro Furukawa commented on the situation. He explained that Nintendo hasn’t adopted anti-takeover measures, but has systems in place “to take all legal and appropriate steps against it”.
Below are Furukawa’s full words:
“We have not adopted what are generally called anti-takeover measures. However, in the case that we face a hostile takeover that would damage the value of the company or the common interest of the company’s shareholders, we do have systems in place, both within the company and in connection with outside experts for such an occurrence, to take all legal and appropriate steps against it even if we have not proactively put preventive measures in place. Going forward, we will continue to investigate how we would respond to a hostile takeover.”
