Accessibility has become a more prominent topic in the gaming industry over the past few years. While many are able to play games without hurdles, that isn’t the case for everyone. Fortunately, we’ve started to see companies like Microsoft come up with products such as the Xbox Adaptive Controller for those with disabilities.

What about Nintendo? Unfortunately, COO Steven Spohn told Game Informer that discussions with Nintendo of America about promoting accessibility tend to go nowhere when “corporate gets involved.” He said, “We have tried reaching out to Nintendo on the corporate level only to be met with silence.”

Nintendo did provide a statement to Game Informer, stating that the company is always trying to be inclusive of all gamers. It is also “actively evaluating different technologies to expand accessibility options”.

The full statement reads:

“Nintendo products offer a range of accessibility features, such as haptic and audio feedback, menu designs using grayscale, motion controls, the option to invert colors, and innovative gameplay. In addition, Nintendo’s software and hardware developers are always looking for ways to be inclusive of all gamers, and are actively evaluating different technologies to expand accessibility options in current and future products.”

Thanks to Jake for the tip.
