Nintendo says you’ll see a few cutscenes in Smash Bros. Ultimate: World of Light, but more about loot grind and getting Spirits

When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai announced the World of Light mode for the game, he made it clear that it’s not quite like Subspace Emissary from Brawl. But after showing the intro, some fans might have unrealistic expectations as to how many cutscenes will be present. Nintendo Treehouse’s JC Rodrigo recently clarified to Game Informer that there will be a few cutscenes, “but it’s really more on focusing on the loot grind, and that flow of getting Spirits.”

Rodrigo stated the following about World of Light:

“You will see some [cutscenes], but it’s really more on focusing on the loot grind, and that flow of getting Spirits. It’s more about the matches and the way of collecting stuff you have an affinity for – a certain IP or franchise you love and you’re just like, ‘I really need this!’ It’s more about that than anything else, but you may see a couple here and there.”

Even after Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches next week, it technically won’t be finished. That’s because Nintendo has already committed to DLC leading into the start of 2020. Rodrigo didn’t have much to say as to who’s planned, but believes the new characters will surprise plans and the content will be “a must-have.”

He said:

“Mr. Sakurai and his team and everyone that works on the game – we love surprises. Just like Piranha Plant, we believe the DLC is going to be a must-have. For me, as a fan… oh man, I would not miss these for the world.”

Thanks to Qwerty for the tip.
