After it was announced yesterday, we have more details about Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 details. Information was posted on the official Japanese website.

Something that Nintendo initially mentioned is that new storybook content is in the works. We now know that new stories will be added to the book as you progress. Super Mario Galaxy contains a new chapter that continues the story from the Wii version. Meanwhile, Super Mario Galaxy 2 introduces a completely new picture book which has four chapters.

Also brand new here is that you can listen to the music from the games with Soundtrack Mode. Across both titles, players can listen to 154 tracks.

You may have missed this yesterday, but an Assist Mode will be included. How does it work? First, Mario’s health increases from three to six. Also, if he falls off the stage, he’ll return to his original position. You can turn on (or off) Assist Mode at any time.

Local multiplayer is supported in which you can share Joy-Con. The second player can stop enemies and collect items.

For amiibo enthusiasts, this functionality will be supported. Players can scan select figures to receive helpful in-game items. New Super Mario Galaxy amiibo were revealed yesterday.

Finally, for those playing on Nintendo Switch 2, Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 will support 4K resolution when docked. Note that this will require an update, which is free. For Nintendo Switch players, the games max out at 1080p.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 comes to Nintendo Switch on October 2, 2025. Those interested in pricing details can check out this page.
