The Marin County Sheriff’s Office relayed the news this week that it arrested 45-year-old Oakland man Jamal Reed-Obafumi after he allegedly stole roughly $10,000 worth of Nintendo Switch games from a number of different libraries.

Reed-Obafumi was connected to a string of at least seven different burglaries of Marin County Libraries. Robberies took place between April and June of this year. As mentioned above, multiple libraries were hit across Northern California.

Once he was arrested, Reed-Obafumi was booked into the Marin County Jail. He’s been slapped with twelve felony charges, which include multiple counts of burglary and committing a felony while out on bail. The notice from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office reads: “Our libraries are pillars of the community and must be safeguarded for everyone to enjoy!”

The brief report doesn’t go into detail about what the plans were for those stolen games. It’s possible that Reed-Obafumi intended to resell them and take home the profits.

To say the least, it’s been a bit of an odd week for Nintendo-related crimes. A few days ago, we heard that over 2,800 Nintendo Switch consoles were stolen from delivery truck on route to GameStop – get the full details here.
