Nintendo Switch Online GameCube games still suffering from input lag, latest test shows

Despite recent reports, input lag still appears to be an issue with GameCube games on Nintendo Switch Online.

Fans recently had some hope that the problem was being addressed following the latest update. The GameCube classics app moved up to version 1.4.0 with the addition of Wario World, and there was recently talk within the community that input lag had improved. However, it turns out that isn’t the case.

Madao Joestar (Piccolo) shared the latest findings on YouTube. Ultimately, the stick range is still not matching the physical range of the control stick with the input lag being higher. So as it turns out, nothing has changed at all.

To ensure that there wouldn’t be wireless interference, a wired GameCube controller was used for the test, which was done for F-Zero GX – a game in which precise controls are needed for the high-intensity racer. Madao Joestar compared how many frames pass between the first frame the input shows in the display and the first frame the menu cursor moves. Whereas it’s only three frames on original hardware with a scaler, it takes eight frames between the input showing in the display and the cursor moving for GameCube titles on Nintendo Switch Online.

You can check out the full test below.

We’re unfortunately back at square one here with input lag for Nintendo Switch Online GameCube games. If there are any improvements in the future though, we’ll definitely let you know.
