Original: An unfortunate decision by one GameStop store has resulted in damaged Nintendo Switch 2 units for some.

As it’s launch day for the new console, you’ll probably hear about all sorts of stories today. But the move made by one GameStop store means that some won’t be able to play the system immediately.

Essentially, one location decided to staple receipts to Nintendo Switch 2 boxes (as shared by Reddit user Konflick). By doing so, the screen was ruined – you’ll notice punctured marks in the pictures below (there are two marks actually). Also, this is unfortunate, but it wasn’t just a one-time thing – it seems this particular store stapled receipts on to many different boxes. There are even reports that at least 100 people were affected by this.

We don’t believe this was an intentional, malicious move by GameStop here – just an innocent mistake without thinking things through. Some have also criticized Nintendo for the way the system is packaged in the box. Still, those affected won’t be any happier today.

Update: GameStop has now shared a statement, stating that replacements have been offered. The full note can be read below.

“We’ve addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens – isolated to one store. Replacements have been offered. Staplers have been confiscated.”
